In the year 2003, the Government of the of the Republic of Zambian entered into a bilateral agreement with the People’s Republic of China for construction of power generating stations to mitigate the power deficit the country was faced with.

Project Challenge

The project encountered many challenges that where faced during the intial stages and the final stages which include.

Result

The agreement resulted in signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ZESCO Limited and Sinohydro of China for construction of an additional 360MW of generating capacity at Kariba North Bank Power Station.
